I started writing this blog post a week or so ago which I have since decided was far too long winded and in turn have chosen to go for something short and snappy instead! So what I’ve done is briefly list and describe a few skin care products that I personally feel work really well for my oily skin type, without leaving it feeling greasy or contributing towards breakouts. I’m hoping that it might be of use to some of you guys to. Let’s roll right into it with cleansers…
Caudalie Instant Foaming Cleanser – £15.00 for 150ml
This is a light, gentle, SLS free foaming cleanser that is amazing for mornings. It removes make up, dirt and oil from this skin, is suitable for all skin types and contains grape, sage and chamomile extracts which give it a real freshness.
Liz Earle Rose & Lavender Cleanse & Polish Cream Cleanser – £16.50 for 100ml
A gorgeously thick, creamy cleanser which really is a treat to use. I love this Rose & Lavender edition as the scent gives of beautiful aromatherapy vibes during an evening cleanse. Used alongside the renowned Liz Earle Hot Cleansing Cloth, you will remove all traces of dirt and make up with ease without stripping the skin of all its goodness. If rose and lavender isn’t your things, the original version contains rosemary, chamomile and eucalyptus, or then there are often limited edition versions such as the current Bergamot & Juniper.
Elemis Pro-Collagen Rose Cleansing Balm – £43.00 for 105g
Delicately scented with English rose, this definitely has to be the most luxurious of all 3 cleansers (and most expensive I’ll admit). This is a thick, nectar like balm that ultimately nourishes the skin and dissolves absolutely every last trace of dirt, without leaving behind any greasiness or residue. You can see my full review of it here, and if you’re willing to spend the money I certainly don’t think you’ll be disappointed.
Following a cleanse, I often reach for…
The Inkey List Hyaluronic Acid Serum – £4.99 for 30ml
The super duper hydrator than can hold up to 1000 times it’s weight in water! This serum from The Inkey List is not sticky like many others and I’m impressed as to how well it sits alongside other skincare and under makeup (no pilling!). The 30ml bottle is small but you don’t need a lot, and let’s face it, it’s hardly going to offend your purse at this price point.
Dr Botanicals Moroccan Rose Superfood Facial Oil* – £19.90 for 15ml
If you like the idea of a facial oil but don’t know where to start, then this would be it. Packed with Vitamin C to promote collagen production and Vitamin A to even skin tone and reduce signs of aging, this oil is full of goodness, and feels great too. I would class it as quite a dry oil, which I actually prefer to other oils I’ve tried, especially when applying alongside other skincare or makeup. Plus it smells AMAZING!!!
Bloomtown The Clearing Black Clay & Teatree Mask – £12.00 for 60ml
If you like tea tree and are looking for something punchy to fight those spot or acne prone areas, then this will do just the job! I apply this to my chin and sometimes T-zone when I’m experiencing a flare up so that the antibacterial properties from the tea tree can work their magic. I love that this mask is non drying so there’s no uncomfortable cracking or tightness. Plus it’s, palm oil free, cruelty free & vegan! Bloomtown have since altered the formula I think due to issues with sourcing ingredients so it now contains charcoal rather than black clay which I’m hoping works just as well.
The final step would be to moisturise with…
As far as moisturisers go this is as light and nourishing as they come in my opinion! Smoothing Lightweight Emulsion is an oil free formula which includes a ‘blend of peptides, ceramides and amino acids to help smooth rough texture, lessening the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles’. You could use this morning and/or night, but I use this every morning without fail as it creates the most perfect and smooth base on which to apply makeup on top of. I think I’m on my third bottle and the large 50ml size will last you ages.
Dr Botanicals Artichoke Superfood Firming Night Moisturiser* – £14.50 for 30ml
This is another ultra light, non greasy cream, but this one has more of an almost whipped texture to it. Because it’s so light it sinks into the skin very quickly and is perfect for applying in the evening before bed. This cream claims to firm, brighten and hydrate the skin for a smoother looking complexion, and I must say my skin always feels fabulously soft the following morning, and this doesn’t break me out which is a big plus. The natural scent isn’t one of my favourites but I can look past it due to the effectiveness of the cream itself.
All of these products work so very effectively and all of them have been repurchases – apart from the Elemis balm as this is my first tub I’m still wading my way through it! I definitely find its trial and error finding products which not only don’t anger acne or spot prone skin, but that also sits well alongside the other skincare you choose to use, and make up too. I hope this has been insightful, and I of course as always would love to hear your recommendations. After all, sharing is caring!
