Top Ten Beauty Products you Need to Try if You Haven’t Already

One of the things I love about being part of the online beauty community (Instagram in particular) is the is the huge amount of inspiration that’s at our fingertips. From product recommendations or warnings (!), to ideas and suggestions there is always something that catches my eye when scrolling through the content by the lovely accounts on my feed. I will fess up and say they I’ve always been one of those people who likes trying something new and have never really been loyal to a particular brand or product for a lengthy period of time, but then for me that’s all part of the fun of the beauty and cosmetics world. Maybe it’s all part of the chase for something better? When it comes to following ‘hypes’ however, I can say that I occasionally have the ability to resist. I’ve given some a go and not been so bothered about the others. And I don’t feel the need to have the latest or most expensive ‘something’ sitting on my dressing table or bathroom cabinet (although I can’t deny that some of even their packaging alone have made them mighty tempting!). Generally, these are products that I’ve talked about time and time again, and for very good reason!

As I have been so overwhelmingly inspired by all of you, I’d like to hope I can return the favour by sharing with you some of the products that have won my heart during 2018, and may inspire you! So, in no particular order…

Daniel Sandler Watercolour Liquid Blush

As a make up lover but no expert, I will openly admit that I’ve not always been the most confident person when it comes to using some products, and liquid blush was one of them. Until 2018 that is! Last year was the year I discovered Daniel Sandler’s range of Watercolour Liquid Blushes through Beauty & The Boutique. Katie who runs the website made it look so easy to use and I was drawn in by the beautifully natural finish that could be achieved. Well I’ll tell ya, I ordered a shade and Katie was not wrong! In fact I’ve since ordered another shade which I can use independently, or mix with the original one to create a custom colour. What I love about these is that they blend across the cheeks so easily without staining one spot and as just mentioned are customisable. The two shades I have are Angel and Cherub, and believe me when I say a tiny tiny bit will go a long way. Each bottle costs around the £16 mark, but could easily last you six months which is a bargain in my eyes! You can also dab a little on the eye lids or lips for an additional pop of colour, which is a great way of tying a look together. Daniel Sandler’s own website will also help you colour match by skin tone, and I’ve even messaged them through social media in the past when I’ve needed some guidance, they’ve always been happy to help.

IT Cosmetics CC+ Full Coverage Foundation

On most occassions this is my go to complexion coverage product. Described as a 7-in-1 skin care and make up solution, CC+ offers factor 50 sun protection, colour correction, full coverage, hydration, anti aging properties, acts a your concealer and primer! As no expert I can’t vouch for all of these claims, I can however say that I bloody love the stuff! I adore the coverage, the way it works into my skin and how nice the finish is. Now as an oily skin girl I will say I HAVE to powder this down, if I don’t it will transfer (I’ve seen some not so attractive foundation marks on my camera view finder to know this!) but that genuinely doesn’t bother me because of all the other benefits it offers, and powdering solves that problem instantly. I have considered buying the CC+ Matte version next time, however I do really like how this particular version works with my existing skincare and other make up. In fact I don’t even have to pile on a load of skin care before hand because this CC cream is so good to my skin. I literally cleanse in the morning with a gentle foam cleanser, apply a little hyaluronic acid, then finish off with this! I’ve also not suffered any horrific camera flash back issues and really love the natural look I can achieve. CF

The Body Shop Camomile Waterproof Eye & Lip Make Up Remover

I cannot even begin to count have many empties posts this make up remover has appeared in! There’s only a handful of products The Body Shop produce that I would buy time and time again, and this has got to be one of them. There’s nothing it doesn’t remove, even the most stubborn of liquid eye liner and lipstick can’t argue with this stuff. It’s a part oil, part liquid mix that when combined (by shaking the bottle) will remove what you want from where you want with ease. There’s no funky scent or colouring, just real good stuff. It will set you back around £10 per bottle so there are cheaper removers out there, but considering how long a bottle lasts and that the The Body Shop quite regularly have up to 40% off their website, you can save yourself a few pennies.

Urban Decay Cream Vice Lipstick

I actually bought this lipstick and matching liner in the shade Rush to wear on my wedding day (even though I didn’t in the end) and I’ve been in love with it ever since. Urban Decay is a brand I don’t actually own a lot of apart from this lipstick and the Smokey Eye Palette, but it’s definitely one of if not THE best formula of ‘normal’ lipstick I’ve tried. It’s extremely comfortable to wear and applies without any effort or fuss. One of the biggest reasons I love it is because of how evenly it wears throughout the day. It never looks patchy nor does it dry out my lips plus the particular shade I have is really pigmented so covers perfectly in one swipe. I know that there is a number of Vice lipstick ranges and I’m not sure how they compare to the original line that this one is from, but I’d certainly like to try others in the future to see!

Original Source Shower Gels

No matter what your preferences are when it comes to scent, there has GOT to be something from Original Source’s shower gel line that will tickle your pickle! From what I can see online, there are currently 15 different scents to choose from, from the sweet and sickly to the fresh and zingy. As a lover of sweet things, my personal favourites from their current line are their Coconut & Shea Butter and Vanilla & Raspberry scents. As far as actual shower gels go they are fabulously foamy and a little goes a long way, plus these are ALWAYS on offer somewhere and can often be picked up for a pound in the local supermarket or drug store. Extra bonus points go to this product though as the brand is vegan and ethically sources its ingredients! I’m urgently hankering for them to release a hair care range too!

Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish

C&P is no new breakthrough in the world of beauty, but it’s certainly been a new breakthrough in my bathroom! This is a product that’s loved all over by people of all ages, and I can now see why. In truth, I’m not sure if it’s the juice in the bottle per say, or the action of using the warm gentle exfoliating cloth every day (love an unintentional rhyme) but either way the clarity of my skin has improved so much since it was introduced into my daily regime. I only use C&P once a day as don’t want to over exfoliate and I find this product works best for me as a night time second cleanse once my make up has been removed. I’ve seen Cleanse & Polish in a couple of different scents, especially over the festive period (but I think these were limited editions), however a current line they do run is the Rose and Lavender which is the most beautiful scent to use in the evening when you’re winding down after a hectic day. Both this and the original versions have the same beautifully rich, creamy texture and are a pleasure to work into the skin. It’s safe to say I’ve become a fan of Liz and her range, so much so that I’ve already prepped and packed some Liz travel mini’s for my maternity hospital bag!

Soap & Glory Archery Brow Tint/Pencil

This was more of a rediscovery for 2018 as it’s a product I’d used a couple of years ago and never repurchased. Not because I didn’t like it, but because I was lured into trying other products and remember getting a couple of brow products in beauty subscription boxes. Now that those have been used up (or didn’t like them) I decided to go back to Archery from S&G because I know how good it was before, and let me tell you, if you are all about the easy life, you will like this too! If you saw my recent Instagram post you may have learnt that this is essentially a double ended stick which has a fine tinting brush at one end and a soft, self sharpening pencil at the other. The tinting brush is the star of the show for me on this one, as it makes brushing in fine hair strokes so effortless. You can be as light or heavy handed as you like depending on the look you like to go for. The pencil end is nice and soft but I don’t really tend to reach for it very often as the brush does everything I need. Archery is available in 3 shades and is vegan, plus as it’s drugstore, it’s easy to get hold of and at £10 it won’t give your purse a heart attack. I’m still not entirely sure on Soap & Glory’s cruelty free status but by visiting the Q&A section on their website you can have a read and decide for yourselves.

The Inkey List Hyaluronic Acid Serum

The £4.99 skin care wonder product! I’d incorporated a hyaluronic acid into my regime year before last as I’d learnt how good a skin hydrator it is. Unlike other hyaluronic acid I’ve tried, this one has absolutely no stickiness or tackiness to it which can often be a common characteristic of this acid. Another thing I love is that my skin feels comfortable after application without any tightness, plus other skin care and make up sits nicely over the top without pilling. It’s been so easy to incorporate this step into my morning routine without worrying about which products will disrupt or mix badly. It’s also amazing to see another brand that has a ‘The Ordinary’ type feel to it that is making good skin care accessible due to it’s sensible pricing. In addition there’s no extra fluff like fragrance or colouring, and it’s all cruelty free. (*Insert hand clapping emoji many times).

Lush Bath Bombs

If there’s any of you out there that haven’t tried a bath product from Lush, let 2019 be the year you do! I only really got into them last year, and because there isn’t a store in my local town, it’s always a bit of a treat to pick up a Lush lovely when out on a shopping trip, or to put a little order in online (which I did a couple of days ago!). There’s such a wide variety of products to choose from, and both myself and my young son love exploring all of the different colours and scents they come in. He particularly loves the fun fidget spinner bubble bars! Yes you can buy bath bombs from anywhere and everywhere these days, but I genuinely think there’s something wonderful about the imagination and passion that goes into Lush’s products. After all, why should bath time only be fun as a child?! Again this brand tick the boxes for vegan, cruelty free and are big advocates for sustainably sourced ingredients, conservation and reduced packaging. Seriously, go get yourself a lushy treat, and feel good about it!

Oh K! Hydrogel Face Masks

Masking is something I like to do 2 or 3 times a month, and considering the wide variety of mask options available on the market, sheet masks really seem to hit the nail on the head when it comes to reduced mess and fuss. Plus they are easy to travel with and can be opened/applied anywhere. The brand Oh K! Life offer a range of sheet masks, but it’s their Hydrogel mask in particular that do it for me. Where as the usual style of sheet masks can have a tendency to slip and slide around the face, and don’t always fit properly, the hydrogel alternative offers a gel two part alternative that can be applied exactly where needed (after all, no two faces are the same!). They stay in place much better and don’t peel off in all the usual spots like the chin and hair line. Based on the information Oh K! provide, their hydrogel masks are ‘made up of the mask essence itself so it absorbs easily into skin.’ Another amazing plus about these hydrogel masks is that they are biodegradable, making them a more environmentally friendly alternative to other sheets masks on the market (external packaging aside of course).

So there we have it, 10 products that have either seen me well through 2018, or have be pleasant rediscoveries! You can shop any of these products by clicking on the name of each product where you will be directed to their own websites. If you enjoyed my post please leave me a little like and your thoughts in the comments!

With Love

Very nice post, thanks for sharing! I really want to try that It Cosmetics CC cream, is lightweight? I really want a cc cream to wear on a daily basis for a natural makeup look, you know?

It’s not the lightest of cc creams, but I like to buff 1 pump into my skin for a natural finish. It’s a little thicker than some as it gives good coverage but it depends what finish you fancy. And thanks for reading lovely! x
