So we’re now finally in 2018! But before leaping forward into the new year too quickly, I want to give a massive shout out to 2017. This was a real year of discovery for me. Not only because it’s when I entered the world of blogging, but also because I’ve found some fab beauty products that have totally won me over and I’d like to share them with you!
Looking at skin care there have been a few items that have made a real impression, and two of those come from the wonderful Pixi By Petra. Her collaboration with Caroline Hirons produced the highly raved about Double Cleanse cleansing balm and cream and I couldn’t imagine my bathroom being without it. Make up removal has become super quick, easy and thorough. Teamed up with this is the much-loved Glow Tonic glycolic exfoliating toner, a product that I use every single day and has become a staple of my morning skin care regime.
Another cleanser you may have seen me mention more than once (sorry if this is getting repetitive!) is Little Green Soap’s Cleansing oil. Packed full of skin loving essential oils this is a cleanser that I simply adore. The scent is captivating, the texture luxurious and a little goes a long way. This has probably been my most favourite discovery this year, especially as I get an extra kick out of supporting a small, independent business like this one is. Plus it only costs around £10 a bottle and is cruelty free!
2017’s monthly beauty box subscriptions have also come up trumps in the realms of new discoveries. A past Love Me Beauty bag gave me the chance to sample the Skin Longevity Serum from Bare Minerals, and this really was like magic in a tube. After cleansing and toning, this light serum is easy to sweep over the skin gives me an almost instantaneous glow and even complexion. I loved the sample so much that I just had to pick a bottle up in the festive sales. GlossyBox has played it’s part too by introducing me to a natural deodorant balm from Native Unearthered. I was always sceptical about these type of products and as to whether they were really effective, but I’d developed a real soft spot for their Coconut Vanilla balm and am on my third tub already!
As we all seem to have gone Korean skin care mad this year it won’t surprise you to see a sheet mask mentioned in this post. Well actually a gel mask to be precise. Oh K! Life’s Gold Dust Hydrogel Mask was super impressive, not only in the way it makes my skin feel, but also with how it sticks. Whereas traditional paper sheet masks can have tendencies to slip, slide and drip all over the place, the hydrogel alternatives come in two parts making it easy to fit to the face, and holds like a dream, staying in place for as long as you need it to.
On to make up! 2017 has been the year of the mascara for me. I’ve discovered three in fact that scored high marks! Firstly was Tarte’s Maneater Mascara, with its precisely lash separating plastic bristles and bold packaging. Tarte in general is a brand I’ve fallen for and am hoping that one day we see them on our very own high streets. Next up was Arbonne’s It’s A Long Story Mascara, discovered by receiving a sample from Kate Mansell, a lovely Arbonne rep who gave me the chance to try it out. The wand is actually very similar to that of the Tarte mascara so I fell in love straight away and was very impressed with the results. Third up is the Velvet Noir mascara from Marc Jacobs from Influenster’s VoxBox. This is such a luxe feeling product, from the stunning packaging to the voluptuous hourglass wand, this mascara really packs a punch.
Whilst we’re talking about eye make up, I made a very recent discovery, only in December, but instantly FELL IN LOVE! I’d heard and seen so much about the Kat Von D Tattoo Eyeliner and now I know why. Never have I used a liquid eyeliner that is so easy to apply, even the lightest hand lays down product along the lash line and it’s hard to go wrong with. So glad I was able to finally cross this off my wish list! In this category I’d like to give a shout out to Colourpop’s Supershock Eyeshadows, I’ve only purchased and tried the one but OMG it’s creamy and dreamy. If you’re looking for pigmented, easy to work with shadows then these are definitely worth a try. I want more but as they come from the U.S I’m dithering over the customs charges. Also I’d feel guilty if I didn’t mention the Tarte Maneater Eyeshadow Palette. It’s probably been my most reached for palette this year, with its warm tones and easy blendability it’s not yet seen me wrong and feel it gets a little overlooked in the beauty blogging world.
Looking at lips, I’ve been very impressed with a couple of other Colourpop products which is their Ultra Matte and Ultra Satin Liquid Lipsticks. These are super easy to apply and comfortable to wear, and have amazing staying power, even when it comes in contact with food or drink. I’d say the Ultra Matte lips probably stands the test of time a little longer than the Ultra Satin, but both perform amazingly and I’m so happy to have these on my dressing table. If you’re looking for another long-lasting lip colour and are a fan of NYX products I’d recommend giving their Turnt Up! (or High Voltage Lipsticks as they used to be called) a go. One of these lipsticks is my go to red shade as it doesn’t budge without a fight and I can’t get over how affordable it is.
If you know me well, or follow my Instagram account you’ll also know that I’ve become a huge fan of Charcoalogy products over the last year. Both their facial cleansers and body washes have been in my bathroom cabinets consistently for months now and I can’t see that changing any time soon! You can read more about Charcoalogy here.
Ok, so that pretty much rounds up my make up and skin care favourites for 2017! Tell me, which products did you fall for last year? Also, if you enjoyed my post please don’t forget to give it a like. I’ll love you forever!
Until next time…
