Happy Hump Day Beauties!!
So, I’m here to talk about Lipstick. A true make-up staple and the one thing that a lot of women would choose as their desert island survival piece. Well, mine would be mascara, but lipstick’s a close second. Someone really needs to release a double ended lipstick and mascara duo, I’d totally take that!
There are so many different formulas of lip product on the market, from gloss to stick, lip liner, sheer, matte, metallic, high shine, tints, balms and the list goes on. Did you know lipstick was first invented around 5000 years ago, using crushed gemstones as facial decoration? And Cleopatra used crushed bugs to tint her lips red! Mind Blown. As well as formulas, there are also about a gazillion different shades out there. Classic reds, rich browns, deep berry’s, pretty pinks and of course, the trusty pinky nude. Everyone has at least one pinky nude! So I thought I’d share with you some of my favourites, and tell you a little about why I love them.
So let’s start with Pink. If you follow my Instagram, you’ll know I recently posted about this lipstick, it’s a fairly new addition to my collection but I instantly fell in love. Yep you guessed it, it’s Pixi By Petra’s Mattelustre Lipstick in the shade Plump Pink. This is the most natural, pretty pink I’ve owned to date. It’s the sort of lipstick you can wear when you want to look like you’re not wearing anything at all. It’s like the natural colour of your lips but better. The formula is creamy, fairly pigmented and long-lasting. This is the first and only Pixi lip product I own but I’ve been majorly impressed and would definitely buy more.
Next is Red. Now I find red to be a tricky colour. It’s easy to make it look messy and I’ve found it can be a bit of a bugger wear wise. However I have found a liquid lipstick from Dose of Colour which DOSE NOT BUDGE! It’s requires some serious elbow grease and good make-up remover to get it off, but as far as reds go this really stands the test of time. I do find it takes a little while to dry down but as it’s not a product that constantly needs re-applying, I don’t mind waiting a bit after first application. As for the shade name I’m not sure what it is, which I’m aware isn’t overly helpful but hopefully you get an idea of the quality.
On to Nude. I’ve had a long love affair with this one, and it’s the Long Last Soft Matte Lipstick from Clinique, in the shade 44 Matte Suede. I remember going through a stage where I wanted my lips to look like they’d blended into the colour of my skin (maybe around the foundation lips stage *cringe), and this was the closest thing I could find. On reflection this actually looked nothing like the colour of my foundation, but it is the most gorgeous light brown nude tone. I love to wear this with a dramatic eye and I’ve pretty much worn it down to nothing. It’s silky, hydrating and a great semi matte.
Now Coral. I think that coral shades have been widely loved and embraced this summer, especially the sheerer formulas. They’re super pretty and fresh, and I’ve got two here to share with you. The first being the NYX High Voltage Lipstick in shade 19 Tiara. For a start it’s affordable, and secondly it’s so long-lasting! The texture is creamy with a subtle sheen, but not glittery. I’ve got a few shades from this range and think they’re all fab. I actually have a red too which is pretty dependable . Just to note I think this line has been re-named Turnt Up. The other coral shade is from Dior, their Lip Addict Lipcolor in the shade 223 Beige Negligee. I don’t know where they get the word beige from as this is certainly not beige as I know it. But it is an amazing light reflecting, sheer orangey pink that I’m literally scraping out of the applicator because I can’t let it go. Now I can no longer find this particular shade available anywhere, so I’m guessing it’s sadly been discontinued. However you can find other Dior Addict shades here.
I cannot write this post without mentioning a Pinky Nude, and the trophy goes to Barry M on this one for their beautiful Matte Me Up collection. I have the lip kit in the shade Pose, which consists of a soft creamy liner and a matte liquid lipstick. The two together just give the most amazing dimension to my lips, they’re non drying, the colour goes with everything and the formulas does not move. I can eat and drink and not have to worry that it might have rubbed off leaving me with that annoying bare patch in the centre. It goes on very pale but dries down beautifully. Plus this kit is only about £8 which is a steal. The same goes for their Matte Me Up Metallics range, which I have one of and the quality is just the same. If you struggle for Christmas gifts for someone, then this would make a fab present without breaking the bank.
Lastly I want to mention Urban Decay’s Cream Vice Lipstick in the shade Rush. I’d describe this as a deep, dusky pink which just about goes with every make-up look! It’s rich, it’s creamy, and it’s pigmented. It wears so nicely and can be re-applied without any fuss or caking. I also have the matching lip liner and the pair are just beaut!
So there are just a few of the lip products I’m fond of. I think that for longevity I tend to reach for the Barry M lip kits, Dose of Colour and NYX High Voltage lipsticks. But if you prefer a silky and hydrating lipstick then the Clinique and Urban Decay options are well worth looking at.
Please let me know what your faves are, I always love to hear from you!
As always, thanks for stopping by,
